The Self Love Challenge

Hey, Babes!

I had so much creating the Self Love Challenge on my instagram. I’ve always been so afraid of showing myself on camera but I actually got a lot of great feedback from you guys about it.

Here’s a wrap up of how the week went!

Challenge # 1:

Treat Yo’ Self

A lot of times I find myself rushing in the morning and not making time for breakfast. Can anybody else relate to this?!

Anyways I decided to set aside this morning(and actually very morning that week) to make myself some breakfast to eat once I got to class/work. Even if it was just a granola bar stuffed in my bag… I still made it count!:)

Challenge # 2

Do something that makes you happy

Anyone who knows me knows that I love reading so naturally I choose picking up a book for this challenge! I’m a huge Harry Potter fan I actually never finished reading the books(I know shame on me). It was so great to pick up a book instead of spending most of the night watching YouTube videos.

Challenge # 3

Give yourself 3 compliments

A lot of times we can be pretty mean to ourselves. So I decided for this challenge to say 3 nice things to myself before I started my day. Although it felt a little weird saying these things in my car before I went to work but(especially when you make eye contact with other people in the parking lot😂) but it actually put me in a good mood to start my day off!

Challenge #4

Dress like your favorite Girl Boss

I get so much outfit inspiration from tv shows and celebrities(especially girl bosses!) I decided to dress up as one of my favorite girl bosses: Blair Waldorf!🙈

Challenge # 5

Have A Self Care Night

Taking care of yourself is so so important and it’s something I’ve been trying to be better at doing this year. Even something as simple as taking a warm bath with relaxing music makes a big difference!!

Challenge #6

Spend Time with People who make you Happy

This past Saturday my friends and I took me out for an early birthday celebration. Just sitting at a table with a few people, eating pancakes and laughing was the best present I could ask for. I think it’s so important to surround yourself with people who lift you up and make you smile!

I learned so much about myself throughout this week and I will definitely implement the techniques I learned in the future. Self love is so so important and I think it deserves a place in everyone’s lives.

I hope you all have an amazing week and for making it to the end of post I have a surprise for you…

I’m finally releasing my YouTube channel!

I’m working on getting a fancy camera but stay tuned for vlogs(omg🙊) coming your way soon!

The Busy Girl Chronicles: Lessons I’ve Learned in October

Hey Babes!

It’s officially November, and I have been loving the sweater weather we’ve been having lately! The past couple weeks have been filled with so many experiences but I’m glad to finally back on the blog after yet another brief hiatus. I learned so many important lessons in October and I can’t wait to share them with you… So go grab a cup of coffee, cocoa, tea or whatever suits you and let’s catch up:)

Lesson # 1 Self-Love

As much as college made me believe that I’d love going out to parties and bars every weekend, that just wasn’t the case for me. I pretended that I was having fun, when in reality I was realizing counting down the minutes until I could be back in bed. Regardless, I keep telling myself that this was a part of college and I should be having fun. I let this cycle occur for awhile before realizing that I don’t have to go through all of this. If I prefer to stay in my apartment with cocoa and a good book, that’s perfectly fine. I find myself letting what other people think of me often get the best of me. Now I know that you don’t have to give other people the power to change how you feel about yourself. That’s what self-love is all about! It’s something I still need to work though- but I’m glad that I’m finally realizing what it means to practice it in my life.

Lesson # 2 Time

I used to think that I was always running out of time. I saw people accomplishing so much with their time, and found myself being jealous of not having everything together. I realized that just because everyone “seems” to have it all together, everyone is going through something. Just because someone is currently ahead of you, doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with your current position.

It just isn’t your time yet.

So instead of forcing myself to make it to a certain point of my life, I decided to step back and realize that my time will come eventually. It make take a couple days, weeks, or longer- but things will eventually work out. They always do:)

Lesson # 3 God Comes First

I understand not everyone who reads my blog is religious, but it is a huge part of my life, so I do want to talk about it. I will be honest and say my faith has been shaky these past couple of months. I haven’t been to church, and my bible has been gathering dust in my dresser drawer. Now, I have gone back to church, and have pulled my bible from its hiding place, I’ve realized that my relationship with god comes before anything else and the happiness that has come from it is something that is so much more fulfilling.

I’ve missed writing on here so much and you will definitely be seeing more of me in your inboxes(and that’s a promise!) I hope you all have a great weekend and I’ll see you back here very soon. I am so excited to start writing holiday content as my favorite time of the year(Christmas) and slowly coming upon us.

With Love,

Woah It’s Wednesday?! : Friends, Re-Branding, Shopping Finds

Hey Babes!

I can’t believe this is my 3rd week doing these posts! I love catching up on my week with you guys so get your coffee or wine ready!!

One of my best friends from college visited me on Tuesday and we got to spend the whole day down at the boardwalk. I haven’t been down there in ages and it was great to catch up with her! I love those friendships were the two of you pick up like it’s only been minutes between seeing each other. I’ll have a full OOTD post and more about the boardwalk later!

I’ve done a lot of progress on my blog and without giving out TOO many spoilers… my blog just might be having a mini transformation. Most of you know that I am known as a Lifestyle AND Fashion blogger. Lately, I’ve been wanting to branch away from the lifestyle niche and focus on fashion. Fashion is the reason I started my blog in the first place and it really is what I want to brand myself as in hopes of a career in the field. This doesn’t mean that I will fully nix my lifestyle posts…I know several of you follow me for those! This just means my focus is going to be on fashion since that’s what seems to be the most popular for you guys on my social media.

Shopping Finds

What would my weekly wrap up be without a list of things I spent money on?!😂

Here are a few purchases I have been LOVING lately(full post TBA)

High Waisted Jeans (bought for $26 on sale)

Sunglasses(Prescription) $30

What can I say…I just love to shop🤷🏽‍♀️

Ok, that’s pretty much it for the wrap-up! Thanks for catching up with me and make sure to tune into my podcast this Saturday! (Topic will be announced on my twitter @roarin20smth as always!)

So grab a cup of coffee(or a glass of wine) and let’s catch up:

🎶 Music 🎶I am a huge fan of Spotify and something I like to do every now and then is to create a Spotify playlist inspired by a season, mood, or even a specific person(celebrity, tv character, etc). Music is something that’s always inspired me. Making and finding these playlists created by others has helped me keep my creative juices flowing… so I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you.

Playlists by me:

Law of Attraction ✨I plan on making a full post on my thoughts on The Law of Attraction, but it’s something I have been reading and learning about over the past couple of weeks! Basically it’,s a mindset that allows you to accomplish something if you set goals and start acting like you already have accomplished what you dream of doing.

5 Tips to Clear Acne Prone and Oily Skin

Hey Babes!

Although I can’t claim to have “perfect skin”(who does?), After years of experimenting with different products, I’ve created a regime for myself that works for me! If you struggle with oily skin and acne I have 5 tips that have helped me clear my skin over the past couple of years!

Ok, Who’s ready for clear skin???

Tip # 1: Use a Sulfate Free Face Wash

This step isn’t really optional for me, because I’m allergic to sulfates, but trust me nixing them from your routine will be SO beneficial. Sulfates are harsh on your skin, and some studies have shown that they can even make your acne worse(HUGE BUMMER).

I love Garnier’s Sulfate Free Cleanser- It takes off all of my makeup, and leaves my skin feeling super soft and fresh!

Sulfate Free Cleanser:

Pro-Tip: Use a cleansing brush to apply your face wash, sometimes using just your hands can make your skin oily, and also add yucky bacteria to your skin. I use my Vivitar Cleansing brush in the morning and night and my skin has gotten so much clearer! The brush is also pink and sparky so I feel like Elle Woods whenever I wash my face- which is always a plus.

Vivitar Face Brush:

Tip # 2: Use That Sunscreen Girl!!!

I never use to think about sunscreen unless it was time to go to the beach, but its super important! I had a chat with my dermatologist and she said that going without sunscreen(even when it’s not hot) can also damage your skin(OUCH). Make sure to use an oil-free moisturizer after washing(especially if you have oily skin like moi).

Tip # 3: Drink Water

Ok, this one may seem a little obvious- but its really important! Drinking tons of water can not only help clear your skin but also improve other aspects of your health as well! If you find it daunting to drink your recommended dose of h20 every day, just buy a cute water bottle and let that be your inspiration to be more accountable!

Here’s a link to the one I use(it’s bright pink of course):

Tip # 4: Invest In an Acne Medication That Works For You

You guys might be rolling your eyes after reading this. I totally get it- I’ve tried Proactiv, and all the other acne medications out there. It can be totally frustrating and trust me I understand. Although you may want to quit after a medication fails you yet again,  KEEP TRYING. You can have beautiful skin, you just need to keep doing your research! After dropping another medication, my sister introduced me to Curology. Guys, I’ve been LOVING it. If you don’t know what Curology is, I’ll link it down below but basically, it’s this company that has you take screening quiz and personalizes your skin care regime for you. I currently have the free trial, so I’ll know how I feel about it at the end of the month- but I am already seeing results after one week!

I’m not sponsored by Curlogy, but if you would like to check it out use the link below:)

Tip #5 Cut Down On Junk Food

My last tip is more of a lifestyle suggestion, but it’s still really important. Your skin emulates what’s going on in your body…so if you are filling your body with a bunch of junk food all the time- your skin isn’t going to be a happy camper:( This doesn’t mean you can never get chicken nuggets from Chick Fil A again, but it does mean you should limit how many times you see that super nice cashier(guilty). As someone who is addicted to sweets, I find trying healthy snack alternatives to be super helpful!

Here are some of the favorites:

Brookside Chocolate covered Acai Blueberries

Apples with Peanut Butter

Boom Chicka Pop Sea Salt Popcorn

Alrighty, guys! I hope you found my tips to be helpful… and if you are struggling with Acne, I hope some of these tips work for you! Make sure to DM me/comment down below what your skin care hacks are!

Woah It’s Wednesday?!: Skincare, New Job, Working Out

Hello Babes!

I have been planning posts for you guys(get excited) and I’m finally ready to share my newest segment with you all! Every Wednesday, you will receive a “Weekly Wrap-up” from me with updates from my personal life, things I’ve been loving, Crazy work stories…pretty much anything goes! I also am using this as a chance to get to know my followers…so make sure to DM me on my social media links so we can chat about our weeks together!  I’m naming this series “Woah it’s Wednesday!?”, so make sure to look for that popping up in your inbox!

So grab a cup of coffee(or your favorite drink) and I’ll share with you the break down on my week so far:

This past weekend I finally went out and treated myself to some new skincare products. As a #broke college student I have sacrificed this kind of stuff in the past, but after watching some youtube videos on Self Care- I realized you really can’t skimp on this kind of stuff. I’ll link everything I purchased below so you can check it out…but the important thing is that you don’t need a ton of dough to take care of yourself(and especially your skin!). Most(if not all) the items linked below are under $20, and totally affordable for gals on a budget. I plan on writing a full post on my skincare routine so I’ll definitely give a full list of products and talk about them in more depth then.

Vivitar Face Brush:

Oil-Free Moisturizer:

New Job

I recently started working a retail job, and although the gif above perfectly sums up the bad days- I actually really enjoy what I do! This past Monday was my first time working the cash register and after some practice, I think I’m getting the hang of it. I may have made one of two customers leave with safety tags still on their clothes- but hey it was my first day after all🤷🏽‍♀️

Working Out

I am no Richard Simmons, but I actually have developed a pretty decent work out routine that I’ve been sticking too! In the past, I used to restrict myself to a specific plan or “calendar” but this only made me feel bad about myself if I strayed away and missed a couple of days. Since I love doing Yoga and Pilates, I decided to warm up in the morning with a yoga routine, do a 15-minute pilates and wrap up with a quick yoga cool down. If you guys would like a full post on exactly what I do(including videos and the YouTubers I follow) make sure to comment down below and let me know!

Ok, guys, that’s it for today’s update! I hope you guys enjoyed catching up with me and be sure to follow me on my social media links(you can find them at the top of my blog in the right corner!) and chat with me!

I went vegetarian for 2 weeks: Here’s what happened

Hello Babes!

Instead of apologizing profusely for the lack of content in your inboxes, I am just going to dive right into today’s post. I have had a lot going on in my life(equally good and bad) which means less time to sit down at my computer and NOT write a research paper. Anyways I tried the vegetarian lifestyle for 2 weeks and decided to share my thoughts with you all. It was an interesting couple of weeks, and I think I learned a lot about my body and lifestyle coming out of the experience.

Let’s get into it!

I’m not going to lie…I’m not the biggest fan of veggies to start with but after having them be a primary part of my diet, I’m actually starting to like them more! My favorite dishes to make were steamed broccoli, the Asian Medley from Birdseye, spinach salads.

Once I like something, I tend to either wear that thing or in this case eat that thing consistently. Being Vegetarian allowed me to be more creative during my shopping trips, and also in the recipes, I decided to make. One of my best friends(shout out to Erika) got me into pan-frying veggie dumplings, and it’s honestly been a game changer for me. It’s super easy when I don’t have a lot of time to cook, and goes great with rice, salads, and pretty much any other side!

Cutting out meat from my diet not only forced me to eat my veggies but also made me feel more energetic throughout the day. Waking up in the morning was a bit easier, and I didn’t feel as sluggish as I normally feel throughout the day.

Because I had to cut out meat from my diet, I had to supplement the loss of protein with extra snacks. This meant buying more at the grocery store than I normally do which means extra $$$ I’m spending. My favorite snacks that kept me full were:

Tortilla chips and Hummus

Baby carrots

Peanut butter granola bars

Kale chips(also thanks to Erika)

More Sweets

This is probably a “me thing” but I found myself wanting more sugary snacks with the absence of meat in my diet. I do have a sweet tooth, but this was kind of heightened when I stopped eating meat altogether.

Overall, I think the experience was very eye-opening for me. I will say, I have gradually cut out red meat from my diet so this wasn’t a complete shock to me. If you are thinking of going vegetarian, I would definitely consult a doctor or professional before making the plunge. There are some really good resources on the internet to check out, but never do anything you aren’t comfortable with! I hope you guys enjoyed today’s post and I will definitely see you all soon with more!
