I went vegetarian for 2 weeks: Here’s what happened

Hello Babes!

Instead of apologizing profusely for the lack of content in your inboxes, I am just going to dive right into today’s post. I have had a lot going on in my life(equally good and bad) which means less time to sit down at my computer and NOT write a research paper. Anyways I tried the vegetarian lifestyle for 2 weeks and decided to share my thoughts with you all. It was an interesting couple of weeks, and I think I learned a lot about my body and lifestyle coming out of the experience.

Let’s get into it!

Pros

 Veggies:

I’m not going to lie…I’m not the biggest fan of veggies to start with but after having them be a primary part of my diet, I’m actually starting to like them more! My favorite dishes to make were steamed broccoli, the Asian Medley from Birdseye, spinach salads.

Variety:

Once I like something, I tend to either wear that thing or in this case eat that thing consistently. Being Vegetarian allowed me to be more creative during my shopping trips, and also in the recipes, I decided to make. One of my best friends(shout out to Erika) got me into pan-frying veggie dumplings, and it’s honestly been a game changer for me. It’s super easy when I don’t have a lot of time to cook, and goes great with rice, salads, and pretty much any other side!

Energy/Mobility

Cutting out meat from my diet not only forced me to eat my veggies but also made me feel more energetic throughout the day. Waking up in the morning was a bit easier, and I didn’t feel as sluggish as I normally feel throughout the day.

Cons

“Hangry”

Because I had to cut out meat from my diet, I had to supplement the loss of protein with extra snacks. This meant buying more at the grocery store than I normally do which means extra $$$ I’m spending. My favorite snacks that kept me full were:

Tortilla chips and Hummus

Baby carrots

Peanut butter granola bars

Pretzels

Kale chips(also thanks to Erika)

More Sweets

This is probably a “me thing” but I found myself wanting more sugary snacks with the absence of meat in my diet. I do have a sweet tooth, but this was kind of heightened when I stopped eating meat altogether.

 

Overall, I think the experience was very eye-opening for me. I will say, I have gradually cut out red meat from my diet so this wasn’t a complete shock to me. If you are thinking of going vegetarian, I would definitely consult a doctor or professional before making the plunge. There are some really good resources on the internet to check out, but never do anything you aren’t comfortable with!
