5 Tips to Clear Acne Prone and Oily Skin

Hey Babes!

Although I can’t claim to have “perfect skin”(who does?), After years of experimenting with different products, I’ve created a regime for myself that works for me! If you struggle with oily skin and acne I have 5 tips that have helped me clear my skin over the past couple of years!

Tip # 1: Use a Sulfate Free Face Wash

This step isn’t really optional for me, because I’m allergic to sulfates, but trust me nixing them from your routine will be SO beneficial. Sulfates are harsh on your skin, and some studies have shown that they can even make your acne worse(HUGE BUMMER).

I love Garnier’s Sulfate Free Cleanser- It takes off all of my makeup, and leaves my skin feeling super soft and fresh!

Pro-Tip: Use a cleansing brush to apply your face wash, sometimes using just your hands can make your skin oily, and also add yucky bacteria to your skin. I use my Vivitar Cleansing brush in the morning and night and my skin has gotten so much clearer! The brush is also pink and sparky so I feel like Elle Woods whenever I wash my face- which is always a plus.

Tip # 2: Use That Sunscreen Girl!!!

I never use to think about sunscreen unless it was time to go to the beach, but its super important! I had a chat with my dermatologist and she said that going without sunscreen(even when it’s not hot) can also damage your skin(OUCH). Make sure to use an oil-free moisturizer after washing(especially if you have oily skin like moi).

Tip # 3: Drink Water

Ok, this one may seem a little obvious- but its really important! Drinking tons of water can not only help clear your skin but also improve other aspects of your health as well! If you find it daunting to drink your recommended dose of h20 every day, just buy a cute water bottle and let that be your inspiration to be more accountable!

Tip # 4: Invest In an Acne Medication That Works For You

You guys might be rolling your eyes after reading this. I totally get it- I’ve tried Proactiv, and all the other acne medications out there. It can be totally frustrating and trust me I understand. Although you may want to quit after a medication fails you yet again,  KEEP TRYING. You can have beautiful skin, you just need to keep doing your research! After dropping another medication, my sister introduced me to Curology. Guys, I’ve been LOVING it. If you don’t know what Curology is, I’ll link it down below but basically, it’s this company that has you take screening quiz and personalizes your skin care regime for you. I currently have the free trial, so I’ll know how I feel about it at the end of the month- but I am already seeing results after one week!

Tip #5 Cut Down On Junk Food

My last tip is more of a lifestyle suggestion, but it’s still really important. Your skin emulates what’s going on in your body…so if you are filling your body with a bunch of junk food all the time- your skin isn’t going to be a happy camper:( This doesn’t mean you can never get chicken nuggets from Chick Fil A again, but it does mean you should limit how many times you see that super nice cashier(guilty). As someone who is addicted to sweets, I find trying healthy snack alternatives to be super helpful!

Woah It’s Wednesday?!: Skincare, New Job, Working Out

Hello Babes!

I have been planning posts for you guys(get excited) and I’m finally ready to share my newest segment with you all! Every Wednesday, you will receive a “Weekly Wrap-up” from me with updates from my personal life, things I’ve been loving, Crazy work stories…pretty much anything goes! This past weekend I finally went out and treated myself to some new skincare products. As a #broke college student I have sacrificed this kind of stuff in the past, but after watching some youtube videos on Self Care- I realized you really can’t skimp on this kind of stuff. New Job

I recently started working a retail job, and although the gif above perfectly sums up the bad days- I actually really enjoy what I do! This past Monday was my first time working the cash register and after some practice, I think I’m getting the hang of it. I may have made one of two customers leave with safety tags still on their clothes- but hey it was my first day after all🤷🏽‍♀️

Working Out

I am no Richard Simmons, but I actually have developed a pretty decent work out routine that I’ve been sticking too! In the past, I used to restrict myself to a specific plan or “calendar” but this only made me feel bad about myself if I strayed away and missed a couple of days. Since I love doing Yoga and Pilates, I decided to warm up in the morning with a yoga routine, do a 15-minute pilates and wrap up with a quick yoga cool down.
